Update to the Reduction in Custodial Services

Thanks to all of you for the patience you have exhibited in adjusting to the changes and reduction in custodial services. We realize that this has been a challenging transition for many of you and appreciate and welcome the calls and feedback we have received.

Here is a summary of the changes in custodial services effective July 1, 2010:

  • Public access areas and restrooms will be cleaned after normal work hours Monday through Friday. (This includes
  • sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.) No day service will be provided

  • Non-public access areas will be cleaned once a week

  • No paper towels will be provided in any of the kitchen areas

  • No paper towels will be provided in restrooms with hand dryers

  • Trash in individual offices will be emptied once a week (The days will vary in each building)

  • Toilet seat covers will no longer be provided

In addition, here are some of the most frequent requests for services and questions we’ve received:

Request: The ladies restroom is out of toilet paper and paper towels.
Response: The contractor is stocking the restrooms with toilet paper every night. If you see that the supply is low, contact Customer Service at 713-755-2255. Paper towels will not be provided if there are hand dryers in the restrooms or if there are no dispensers.

Request: We have dispensers but there are no paper towels in our kitchen.
Response: Contractor no longer provides paper towels in the kitchen areas. The dispensers will not be removed from the kitchen areas because there are departments that have opted to fund the paper towels out of their departmental budgets.

Request: There are no toilet seat covers in the restrooms.
Response: Toilet seat covers will no longer be provided.

Request: The restrooms are filthy.
Response: Contact Customer Service at 713-755-2255.

Question: How often is my building being cleaned?
Answer: The public access areas and restrooms will be cleaned after normal work hours Monday through Friday. (This includes sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming). No day service will be provided.

Question: What happens if there is a spill, an accident or an emergency that occurs during the day in my building?
Answer: Contact Customer Service at 713-755-2255.

Question: How often will my office get cleaned and the trash cans emptied?
Answer: Individual offices will be cleaned once a week. This also includes the emptying of trash cans. The days of service will vary depending on the building.

Cost reductions are affecting us all.  Thanks Constable Hickman for doing your part!
